Not a day goes by that I don’t learn something new about the nonprofit work that’s happening in the greater Green Bay area.
From hunger and homelessness to youth development and community improvement —just when I think I understand an issue and the approaches to addressing it in our community, I learn about a new initiative underway. A model that’s working somewhere else so we’re testing it here, a program that is breaking through in a new and innovative way, an impact we were hoping for but weren’t sure we’d see.
The nonprofit sector of our community is a nimble and vibrant group of organizations filling gaps and addressing needs at a time in which our community has many needs and gaps to fill. And Give BIG Green Bay gives us all a chance to see that work in action.
In our second year promoting the work of nonprofits in 11 sectors of community impact, the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation and Green Bay Packers Foundation are joined by other funders in lifting up this work and introducing it to a new audience through our 24-hour online giving event.
That’s where you come in.
With 40 organizations that serve this community representing the different sectors, there is fascinating work to discover and support. We have nonprofits serving our youth, saving our animals and securing our neighborhoods. Organizations that promote the arts, protect our environment and position our community for success. They will benefit from the dollars we raise, but just as important is the awareness this event can bring to their work. It could mean new donors, new volunteers, even new board members. And the critical bottom line: awareness of the complex issues facing our community and new knowledge of the ways we can support the work to address them.
This 24-hour online giving day is a compact, fun-filled community event. But in the weeks leading up to the big day you can peek behind the curtain at the efforts of a passionate, committed nonprofit community going on around us every day.
Learn more about an organization you haven’t heard of by exploring their page at www.givebiggreenbay.org. Watch their videos or look through their photos and read about the impact they’re having in your neighborhoods.

And at the end of the day, maybe you choose to give an extra boost to the organizations you already support and believe in. No matter where you put your focus, your dollars are maximized by the generous contributions of our Giving Day partners. And the spotlight is deservedly on those typically toiling under the radar to improve the quality of life in greater Green Bay.
