The Indian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) scene has not witnessed a breakout moment till now. There are a lot of MMA gyms and clubs cropping up in the country but the craze is yet to light up India. There are fighters who competing in top promotions in the world like Bharat Khandare (UFC), Puja Tomar (ONE Championship) and Himanshu Kaushik (ONE Championship). But things could soon change on February 22 when another Indian fighter takes the cage on the world stage.
India versus Pakistan clashes are often reserved for cricket and hockey. The matchups are extremely popular and draw huge attention. But this time we would see an actual fight between the two arch-rivals and it will inside a cage. India’s Rahul Raja will take on Pakistan’s Ahmed Mujtaba in the lightweight category of the ONE Championship: Call to Greatness event in Singapore on February 22.
Both the fighters are carrying the flag for their countries in Asia’s biggest MMA organization as the professional fighting scenario in both India and Pakistan are at a nascent stage. A lot of eyes are still not on the marquee fight between the two as ONE Championship is trying to find its footing in India.
They are actively trying to recruit elite talent from India and recently Puja Tomar won her first match in the organization when she defeated Priscilla Gaol at the ONE Championship: Eternal Glory event.
Mujtaba even hyped up the fight against Raju while talking to Pakistan Today.
“I am excited about this fight as its Pakistan vs India and everyone loves this clash,” Ahmad said:
Ahmed even had kind words for his opponent Raju but admitted that he is the one who will come out on top in the fight.
“Respect for Rahul as he is a great fighter and a lot of credit goes to him for agreeing to fight the match.”
“One man has to win and that will be ME.
Now it is the turn of the “Kerala Krusher” Raju to keep the Indian flag high when he faces off against Mujtaba. However, Raju is not in the best of forms as he is yet to record a win in ONE Championship after losing his first three fights. But maybe against Pakistan’ Mujtaba, Raju finds it footing and gets his MMA career back on track.
