Our Closet – Powered by JFCS is looking for a Program Coordinator to join our team of dedicated professionals providing free clothing to Philadelphians in need. The Program Coordinator position is responsible for multiple aspects of Our Closet program delivery, including overseeing or assisting at pop-up shops at host sites throughout the city, coordinating the flow of donations/inventory and warehouse organization, volunteer engagement and shopper outreach, and assisting with our Reentry Initiative and in putting together crisis packages for clients.

The Coordinator also leads volunteer sorting events with corporate, community and school partners, and is responsible for tracking essential data regarding volunteers, clothing inventory and shoppers.

In addition, the Coordinator interfaces with Our Closet volunteers, supporters and shoppers in a warm, welcoming and positive manner, both in person and via email and phone communication.

Position is 4 days per week  with benefits (medical, dental, life, disability, 403b) Must have transportation, as work will be divided between warehouse in Springfield, PA (DelCo), pop-up shop locations throughout the city, and offices in Center City and Bala Cynwyd.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist at and eventually oversee a number of Our Closet pop-up shops that enable Philadelphians in need to receive clothing in a warm, welcoming and dignified manner
  • Collaborate with volunteers to provide best and most efficient experience possible to shoppers at pop-ups
  • Assist with inventory management at Our Closet’s warehouse, sorting through donations and preparing crisis and reentry packages of clothing
  • Work with staff to organize warehouse for optimum efficiency
  • Work closely with host sites and fellow non-profit partners
  • Research and outreach to social service agencies and organizations to market pop-ups to potential shoppers
  • Recruit volunteer groups from schools, businesses, community partners and other organizations
  • Lead volunteer clothing sorting events, sometimes on weekends
  • Research potential wraparound services and additional experiences for shoppers at pop-ups
  • Assist at Our Closet and JFCS events
  • Consistently communicate with Our Closet constituents such as volunteers, donors and shoppers, returning emails in a timely fashion
  • Handle all materials properly to ensure integrity of items
  • Complete all required paperwork and maintain documents as needed


  • Demonstrate a positive, can-do attitude and provide outstanding service
  • Demonstrated strong and effective communication skills, both written and oral
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing excellent time management skills
  • Very strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to track and document paperwork as required
  • Ability to follow direction of Supervisor and to work independently using demonstrated problem solving skills and good judgement based on program policies, procedures, and values

  • Have at least 2 years of successful work experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Must have clean criminal, child abuse and FBI records
  • Must adhere to Agency policies regarding restricted driving activities
  • Must be physically able to lift and load heavy materials (clothing bags and more) into and out of the vehicle; this requires the ability to bend down to lift and reach above head to lower materials as necessary. Weight lifting requirement is up to 40 pounds for bags/materials unassisted.
  • Must be able to keep up with physical demands of the job which includes the possibility of standing and/or waling for several hours during events
  • Must be tech savvy and be able to use computer programs (e.g. Windows 365, timekeeping system) and equipment (e.g. smart phone, laptop computer or tablet) as required
  • Must be a team player with a great attitude and commitment to helping vulnerable Philadelphians
  • Must have transportation, as work will be divided between warehouse in Springfield, PA (DelCo), pop-up shop locations throughout the city, and offices in Center City and Bala Cynwyd. This requires a current and active driver’s license and clean driving record free of major infractions

In 1983 the Association for Jewish Children (AJC) and Jewish Family Service (JFS) merged to become today’s Jewish Family and Children’s Service.

AJC can trace its roots to 1855, when Rebecca Gratz founded its predecessor agency, the Jewish Foster Home–the first institution in the country to care for indigent and destitute Jewish children. The Home merged with several Jewish children’s service organizations and the Association for Jewish Children was formed in 1941.

JFS began in 1869 as United Hebrew Charities, and was established to provide food, clothing, fuel, medical attendance and other aid to those in need. By 1920, the agency had evolved from a largely volunteer organization to a professional organization with trained social workers. By 1948, when the agency became Jewish Family Service of Philadelphia, its services included counseling, homemaker services, services for older persons, a volunteer program, and Jewish family life education.

Since both AJC and JFS were serving children and families, the two organizations merged to become JFCS, one comprehensive agency serving individuals, children and seniors through all phases of the life cycle.
