Pakistani Envoy Optimistic On Future Of Afghan Peace Process – TOLOnews

As the efforts are ongoing for the Afghan peace process at national and international levels, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Kabul Zahid Nasrullah Khan, who addressed a ceremony in Kabul on Friday, said he hopes that Afghanistan will witness enduring peace and stability in the near future and that the Afghan youth will have an important role in this process.

The Pakistani envoy emphasized that Kabul-Islamabad relations should improve.

“Inshallah, very soon, Afghanistan will experience enduring peace and stability and in the post-peace Afghanistan, your (the Afghan youths) role will be very crucial,” Khan said as he addressed a gathering of Afghan students who will attend a scholarship program in Pakistan.

The Afghan students, whose number reaches to 800, will head to Pakistan for higher education. The students said the ongoing war in Afghanistan should come to an end and that the achievements of the past 17 years should be retained during the peace process.

“This scholarship provided by Pakistan is good for improving relationships and friendship between the two countries,” said Zarifa Ahmadi, an Afghan student.

“I am excited that I can improve my knowledge through this scholarship,” said Najib Ahmadi, an Afghan student.

This comes that as part of the peace efforts, a trilateral meeting was held between special envoys of United States, Russia and China in Moscow on Thursday,  April 25, which ended with a “trilateral consensus” on the Afghan peace process, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

It was the second trilateral consultation on Afghanistan in Moscow, in which US Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad, Chinese Special Envoy Deng Xijun, and Russian Presidential Representative Zamir Kabulov discussed the current situation in Afghanistan and the ongoing peace process.

The Pakistani envoy’s remarks come as Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan recently said in a statement that Afghanistan conflict has brought great suffering for both Afghanistan and Pakistan over last 40 years.

He said that “now, after a long wait, the Afghanistan Peace Process presents a historic opportunity for peace in the region and Pakistan is fully supporting the process including the next logical step of Intra Afghan Dialogue wherein Afghans will themselves decide upon the future of their country”.
