MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Vitalant and Rush Hospital will conduct a community blood drive Thursday, May 30, from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., at 1314 19th Avenue in the Specialty Hospital classroom.
Vitalant says all blood types are needed. The organization says blood
donations start declining by as much as 20% at this time of year.
“With the passing of Memorial Day weekend, donors are needed now to help rebuild and sustain the blood supply in our community” said Beverly Clark, donor recruitment representative. “To ensure an adequate blood supply for patients, all blood types are needed, especially type O.”
Schedule your appointment to donate at vitalant.org or call 877-25VITAL.
Blood donation takes about an hour from check-in to refreshments. Donors can save about 20 minutes by completing their Fast Track Health History the day they donate at vitalant.org. Click the attached link to access the website.
Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 and 17 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.
