Afghanistan- Khalilzad Welcomes Afghan, Pakistani Leaders' Meeting – MENAFN.COM

(MENAFN – Daily Outlook Afghanistan) Khalilzadsays improved Afghanistan-Pakistan ties are key to regional integration andconnectivity.
KABUL- The US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation has welcomed themeeting between President Ashraf Ghani and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khanon the sidelines of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting inSaudi Arabia.
Khalilzadsaid in a tweet that improved Afghanistan-Pakistan ties are key to reaching,implementing and capitalizing on opportunities for regional connectivity,integration and development.
‘USstands ready to assist the Afghan peace process, Khalilzad said.
Accordingto the Presidential Palace, Ghani and Khan discussed the Afghan peace processand bilateral relations.
Khanassured Ghani that Islamabad will support Kabul in bringing peace and stabilityin Afghanistan, the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.
‘PrimeMinister Imran Khan reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful and stableAfghanistan. He also underlined Pakistan’s firm support for an Afghan-led andAfghan-owned peace process for political solution in Afghanistan, thestatement said.
Thestatement added that Ghani and Khan will further discuss security and economicissues in the forthcoming visit of the Afghan president to Islamabad.
ThePresidential Palace in a statement said that Ghani and Khan also discussedissues around regional connectivity as well as trade and transit.
Thestatement said that Khan promised to resolve the problem over the closure ofPakistan airspace to Afghan flights between Kabul and New Delhi. (Tolo news)
