Give access to arrested duo, MEA tells Pakistan | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The government on Thursday said the two Indian nationals purportedly arrested in Pakistan were actually detained by local authorities in 2016-17 after they “inadvertently” crossed over into Pakistan. Replying to queries about the two individuals — Prashant Vaindam and Bari Lal — the MEA reiterated its demand for consular access to them and expressed hope that they won’t be used as tools for Pakistani propaganda.
That Pakistan had chosen to show them as arrested now had come as a surprise to India, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said.
Kumar said there were five civilian prisoners in Pakistan’s custody for having crossed the border inadvertently.
