Australia completed a dominant series whitewash of Pakistan on Monday after thrashing the Azhar Ali-led visitors by an innings and 48 runs.
A hapless Pakistan side managed to take only 3 wickets and conceded 589 in the 1st innings of the Day-night Test in Adelaide, thanks to a record-setting triple hundred from David Warner and a daddy hundred from Marnus Labuschagne.
Despite their best Test batsman Steve Smith not managing to trouble the scorers much, Australia amassed 1169 runs in the 2-match series for the loss of just 2 wickets. Pakistan suffered an innings defeat in both the Tests, slipping to one of their worst-ever overseas series losses.
The dominance was so much so that it looks like Australia are slowly getting back to where they belong in the international arena. In the recent past, the Baggy Greens were in a period of transition and the ball-tampering bans for Steve Smith and David Warner did hurt their reputation as a Test team as well.
However, they have bounced back in style in 2019, retaining the Ashes Urn on a trip to England and then thrashing Pakistan at home.
Taking to social media after Australia’s innings win Adelaide, former England captain Michael Vaughan took to Twitter and said India look like the only side which can challenge Australia in Australia at the moment.
“This Australian Team in these conditions are going to take some beating … Only @BCCI #India have the tools to do so at this stage imo … #AUSvPAK,” Vaughan wrote on Twitter.
While Australia have regained their dominant form in Tests, India have been unstoppable in 2019.
Under Virat Kohli, India completed their first ever Test series win on Australian soil earlier this year. In the absence of David Warner and Steve Smith, Australia were outplayed in all 3 departments.
With their pacers achieving unprecedented highs, India have turned into a winning machine in Tests. Following the World Cup, Virat Kohli’s Test team thrashed West Indies in West Indies and completed whitewashes of South Africa and Bangladesh at home.
Fittingly, India are leading the World Test Championship table with 360 points from 7 matches while Australia are 2nd with 176 points from 7 matches.
India will tour Australia for a 4-Test series in December 2020. It remains to be seen if India will agree to playing a Pink ball Test in what is already a highly-anticipated Test series.
