The People’s Liberation Army is being swelled by a new generation of recruits, machines who go into battle without fear and obey orders without question.
Battalions of military robots are soon expected to be deployed to fight alongside humans on the battlefield as Beijing seeks to press home its advantage over regional rivals in cybernetic warfare.
The world was first alerted to the Chinese development of military robots when they made an appearance in military drills last year. In more recent weeks they have been touted on state television as a defining achievement by commanders of the armed forces.
