August 17, 2020, marks the annual celebration of National Nonprofit Day, which was founded to commemorate a change in America’s laws allowing more aid to be distributed throughout local communities via nonprofit organizations.
Initiative is a foundation that supports nonprofits throughout Colorado and the
U.S. with grants to fund organizations serving older adults or working to
create a more vibrant aging experience.
Since 2017, the Foundation has awarded 348 grants to 239 organizations for more than $25 million. These community initiatives focus on social services, health technology and combating ageism and isolation among other areas and issues of concern to older adults.
“NextFifty Initiative joins the
nation in celebrating this day and expresses deep gratitude for nonprofit
organizations who do such meaningful work to support our communities.” said
Diana McFail, president and CEO.
The Foundation and its grantees could
not function at the capacity they do without the Tariff Act of August 17, 1894.
This Act gave charitable and nonprofit organizations exempt tax status ensuring
more funds would support educational programs and services.
There are approximately 1.3 million charitable nonprofits across America that empower, feed, shelter, and educate people of every age, ability, race and gender. Colorado, according to Colorado Nonprofit Association, has more than 20,000 nonprofits that represent 6% of the state’s economy.
NextFifty Initiative recognizes the importance of volunteers, donors, sponsors, and organizations that make nonprofit services accessible across the country.
