Princeton Non-profit Seeks Volunteers To Deliver Meals – Yahoo! Voices

PRINCETON, NJ — A local organization is looking for volunteers to pick-up and deliver meals to recipients’ homes.

Share My Meals is a non-profit organization run by volunteers that aims to help the needy in the Princeton area.

Waste Watcher Program is the group’s sustainable meals recovery process, which is approved by the local health department. Under this program, surplus meals from cafeterias of local corporations, schools, universities, and restaurants, are distributed to community members in need. This also helps in reducing food wastage.

During the pandemic, the organization successfully launched Share My Meals Covid-19 Program, where they purchases meals from local restaurants at the cost of goods, to give residents in need. This also helped local eateries stay active and pay some of their staff members.

“Thanks to the amazing support of three partner restaurants, our team of volunteers, and generous donors over the last six months, we have been able to deliver more than 25,000 healthy meals directly to the home of the 75 families enrolled in our program,” the group told Patch in a statement.

Share My Meals is looking to add more volunteers to its program. Those interested to join can fill this form: https://sharemymeals.org/volunteering-with-us/

Patch has partnered with Feeding America to help raise awareness on behalf of the millions of Americans facing hunger. Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks across the country, estimates that in 2020, more than 54 million Americans will not have enough nutritious food to eat due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. This is a Patch social good project; Feeding America receives 100 percent of donations. Find out how you can donate in your community or find a food pantry near you.
